Postcoder is set to make “a little bit of history” by being one of the first address lookup APIs in the world to support Irish Eircodes.
The popular API from Allies can be integrated into websites and apps, and offers a quick way to fill-in addresses on forms, such as those on checkouts, order booking apps and CRMs.
Eircode is Ireland’s first-ever postcode system and will be officially launched by the state government on 13 July 2015. To support the launch, each of the country’s 2.2 million addresses has been assigned an Eircode. Each 7-letter location code uniquely identifies an individual address and its coordinate position.
The government department responsible for the project have described Eircode as making “a little bit of history” since each code identifies one address rather than a collection of addresses as in the UK and other countries.
Postcoder can be used to lookup an Irish address and its position from an Eircode, and also to find an Eircode using just the first line of an address.
The smart search technology developed by Allies is able to automatically distinguish between Eircodes and address fragments, meaning users can lookup an address using any of the details they have available.
Dan Cooper, CEO for Allies said “The launch of Eircode is a significant event for the people of Ireland and for businesses operating within this market. We are delighted to be one of the first to offer Eircode within an API and expect Postcoder to play a leading role in facilitating widespread adoption of the data over the coming months.”
Postcoder is available on several payment plans and has pay-per-lookup options starting from £20.
