News Article Allies joins Greening Wymondham for a volunteering day in Ketts Park
Three of the Allies team headed to Ketts Park in Wymondham this week to volunteer with Greening Wymondham.
Greening Wymondham are a local conservation group who carry out environmental and sustainable projects in Wymondham, Norfolk. Since 2017 Greening Wymondham volunteers have been working on woodland management at Ketts Park Wood, an area of community woodland that had been neglected for many years.
This winter, along with Norwich Fringe Project, Greening Wymondham are holding a series of woodland management days for volunteers at Ketts Park Woods. The Allies volunteers got stuck in with woodland management tasks such as scrub clearing, and donned hard hats for coppicing the maple, hazel and oak trees in the woodland.
As well as the hard yet satisfying work clearing pathways and felling trees, Allies volunteers learnt about methods of woodland management that promote a healthy and biodiverse woodland environment.
Allies’ employer-supported volunteering policy allows employees three fully-paid days per year to take part in volunteering opportunities. Rachel Potter, Business Support Executive for Allies, says “volunteering with Greening Wymondham was a fantastic opportunity to be out in the fresh air, to work alongside colleagues doing something a little different and also to give back to our community. It was a really rewarding day all round.”
