In 1987, our two co-founders set out to create a software company which focussed on quality, and treated its employees and customers with absolute integrity, care and respect.
This philosophy remains at the core of the company today.
The decade where Windows software rules
Inspired by an early contract for the James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth, we develop an address cleansing tool with a focus on accuracy for both residential and business addresses. We develop our first Windows desktop product a few years later.
We launch Postcoder into the cloud
Postcoder was one of the first cloud-based address validation APIs to appear in the UK. Nearly 20 years later, we’re the largest and most established independent address validation provider in the UK.
Postcoder provides international address lookup
We add over 240 international datasets to our API and make it possible to look up an address anywhere in the world.
5 year contract with Royal Mail
We are delighted to win a 5 year contract to develop an addressing application for Royal Mail called UK Addresses.
More data for Postcoder and 100% ownership for our employees
Always looking to innovate, we add new datasets AddressBase Premium and Eircode to our API. Postcoder now incorporates over 40m complete addresses worldwide. We also add an email validation feature.
In 2015, we also become 100% employee owned. We establish our own Employee Ownership Trust, which ensures that we retain commercial agility while allowing every employee to have a voice.
Allies turns 30!
Passing our 30th anniversary didn’t slow us down. We’re continuing to build on our successes and break new ground. We celebrate the milestone with a company party at our offices in Framingham Pigot.
After 30 years of address innovation, we are always striving to make our solutions better for our users. We begin conducting and releasing our own research to provide our customers with industry insight.
We update the Allies brand and website to reflect our innovation and expertise in all things addressing. Our new company site highlights our address data services and our address lookup API.

We win a position on the Tech East 100 list strengthening our reputation as one of the east of England’s most successful and aspirational companies.
The awards ceremony is opened by actor and broadcaster Stephen Fry who describes the region as a “secret garden of geeks who are changing the world for the better”.
We are compliant with ISO 9001:2015, the international quality standard which recognises commitment to delivering high quality products and excellent service to customers. 2018 is the nineteenth consecutive year that we have achieved compliance.

In keeping with the original vision, and similar to the John Lewis Partnership, Allies Computing has a rich heritage of employee ownership. The company became 100% employee-owned in 2015 after more than a decade of growing employee ownership.
Today, all our employees are invested in the company through an indirect employee ownership trust. Their dedication and commitment to our customers is rewarded through the sharing of benefits and profits.
